邱垂亮教授紀錄片電影欣賞 | Life’s Good — Documentary on Professor Chwei-Liang Chiou

出生在苗栗客庄的邱垂亮，後來在澳洲昆士蘭大學政治系執教多年。他的人生，跨越流亡與黑名單的陰影，卻始終選擇直面威權，成為台灣民主運動裡「個子不高的巨人」。從1975年發表〈兩種心向〉開始，邱教授便背負不能返鄉的流亡命運，卻從未沉默。他在國際發聲、在學界培育無數政治與社會菁英，讓「台灣」兩字，在國際上持續被看見。 學生敬稱他為「亮公」，鍾肇政先生則暱呼他「阿亮牯」。他笑說：無論亮公或亮牯，英文縮寫都是 LG — Life is Good。這份通透的人生體悟，也成為他最後的力量。

2021年，他辭世於澳洲，澳洲參議員更在國會追悼，讓他的故事寫入民主史冊。然而，在今日的台灣，許多年輕世代卻還未認識他。導演陳麗貴透過廣泛史料、珍貴影音、動畫，以及邱教授的書信與政論文字，結合台語、客語、華語與英語的聲音，讓這位跨文化的學者再度鮮活於眾人眼前。這部歷時三年完成的紀錄片，呈現邱教授的養成、理念、掙扎與貢獻，也映現他書信與著述中的辯證與願景。邱教授一生人，無私、熱情、對自由民主的堅持，我們會永遠記得。

Directed by Lih-Kuei Chen, this film honours Professor Chiou’s legacy, tracing his journey from early disillusionment under martial law in Taiwan, through formative years in the United States, to decades of community-based activism in Australia.

Combining interviews, archival footage, and Professor Chiou’s own writings, the film delves into his experience of Cold War exile, the formation of a diasporic identity, and the influential role of critical thought in shaping transnational Taiwanese democracy.

It's more than just a portrait of a single intellectual, the documentary explores broader themes of cultural resistance, diasporic diplomacy, and the enduring impact of ideas that transcend the Taiwan/China binary.

This film is presented in Mandarin, Taiwanese and Hakka with English subtitles.
